the culture show

as i lay in my bed i turned to channel four and the culture show was on it brought up some great point one of which i still cant get my head round. in the show it show u Glasgow school of art and how its been fundamental to the success of artist to be produced in Scotland. It also went into great detail about Charles Rennie Macintosh and how the design of the building was for function to merge with form as he himself knew first hand what an art student was looking for due to him taking night classes there. sadly tho Macintosh never got the recognition he deserved and died virtually unknown in France.
This is what i cant get my head round why it is that an artist becomes world renowned after he or she has died, Why not wen they are alive?
How has there work changed ?
Whats different?
Is it the people that have changed, have they realised that the people before them were wrong or had over looked these pieces of art. who know?
I agree with the voice over in the show that art colleges around the world create an atmosphere that in turn helps the creative juices to flow and allows people who aren't from an art back ground to dabble and let loose. i believe that these institutions are to be cherished and that we as students of them, utilize it to its full potential.

tv last night

as i watch my television last night I came across a program of great interest it was about how Scotland has shaped the medical world we know. from penicillin to ultra sound, we found antithetic and that if used correctly could help ease childbirth and sedate patients that were being operated on. However after all these new fascinating discovery's, I have now became aware of the'Scottish enlightenment' . These were the intellects of Scotland from all different backgrounds discussing new concepts and theorys and pushing the population forward. I was amazed that these people did what we are doing at this moment in time, getting together with my fellow students to discuss new exhibitions, artist or anything in the world that takes our fancy. i say bring on discussion!

up

on wednesday night a group of us graphics people got together and went to see the new pixar/disney film. This is mainly due to me impersonating the large bird (kevin) on a daily basis.

at the start of the film there was a short film cold partly cloudy and to my amazement after i had re-watch it on youtube that there was no talking what so ever, all just sound and back ground music. This got me thinking how much music is an integral part in films, would the scene from psycho still have the same effect with out the screeching or jaw with the piano or any main part to the story.

music highlights area we need to pay attention to, some might argue it bigger than the actors themselves as it brings more atmosphere etc. So i ask why do these people that do these job not get as much recognition as the famous actors, because the aren't the one on screen? well from now on i shall be taken a greater intrest into background music.

Carrying on with UP i expected it to be a fun fill film with many warm characters such as previous films by pixar , Toy Story, Monsters Ink however this one started off with a sad start with the main characters wife dying and him being left in there marital home till such a time arrive when he remembers a promise he once made and take off on an adventure of a life time

mapping session

Alright just finish my leaflet thing today. All done and sent on so no worring about that, i found in design to be a tricky basket at time as this is my first ha ha. However i carried on and became the 'dominate force' and as i did so gained the knowledge of text wrap and path ways.
Moving on swiftly tho as lunch approaches. My seminar group and i have been engrossed in duscusion from our last meeting with Jonathan discussing many point in the book and relating them to anything and every thing,' pushing the boundaries' one might say createing mind maps and brainstormin outcomes alike, leaveing no thought behind and running the ink wells dry in our quest to push forward.as u can see in the following
This came about through the group discussing different aspects of the law of the few and widening it into everyday like such as socially, scientifically ect. As you can see we went a bit arrow daft bud it was a great session and we have agree to mee tomorrow and at some point in the reading week, what can i say we like each others company.

this is the construction of one of many maps we created while pondering ideas as-well as in the following i cannot resist the chance of a picture lol.

Me taking the whole process deadly serious.i believe laughter helps the working environment however to much can sometimes become a hindrance.

I have done these two mind maps over the weekend and have found to my surprise that my brain, yes my brain has retained alot of information about the book i have recently read, the tipping point.
I find this amazing. I have one of those brains that tends to wonder off on a tangent and forget about the job in hand, the impulse to doodle or get a drink most of the time is to strong however these impulses were held at bay as i become engrossed with this book, By my own admission i should read more books to work my imagination and to extent my vocabulary but the look of al that text on one page put me off not the fact i cant read just the fact that i would rather be playing football, jogging in a stage way i never like to be still I always want to be on the move doing something, maybe i have to much energy and this is a way of using it up or maybe Im afraid that if i read more i might be considered a 'geek' by my circle of friends. However being different appeals to me so maybe i will give it a go, it cant hurt my brain that much but at the same time if a game of hockey, football or some other physical activity came up i cant say hand on my heart id turn it down i just love sport more

Annoyed

Working away this ,morning and have came to the conclusion that my sketch book is a huge disappointment not only to me but should be to the tutors as well.i have been researching caviar and although i i found out some very interesting fact this has not been put across in my measly sketch book.
At the start i was ready and willing delving into its passed and what it is, ware it came from and even how it tasted. Even tho what i do have is relevant, i thought there was more of it and am annoyed with the fact that i haven't seen this sooner in my next brief i will try no to get to wrap up in what Im doing and every now and again take a step back and look at what i have.

hey ho another day in doj city,im pondering other ideas for my personal website. layout, type face ect. Im trying to get my head round all the technical stuff on dream-weaver and all that jazz.Im hoping to do something similar to david Shirley, keep it simple and to the point i really can be doing with flash lol. In my opinion it just looks tacky. Im happy to look at any websites any one has or ideas to get the creative juices flowing, so get commenting ;).
